Field of Accumulation,
or Refuge Field: A Refugee Field is a particular type of Buddhist,
and in recent times Bon, painting composition that arranges all
of the teachers and deities of a particular tradition in one painted
composition as formulated by individual religious traditions and
as described in liturgical texts.
The function of a Refuge Field is to be a visual composition reminding
the devotee of all of the most sacred objects contained in the
tradition, namely the Teacher, Buddha, Dharma - religious texts,
Sangha, Ishtadevata - meditational deities, and Dharmapala - the
Religious Protectors, including wealth deities. It is this hierarchical
grouping of teachers, books and deities that are the Field of
Accumulation - the basis upon which merit [in a Buddhist sense]
can be accrued.
The Refuge Field
is also the basis for a visualization and meditation practice
common to Tantric Buddhism. The Tibetan word 'tsog zhing' is often
mistakenly translated from Tibetan into English as 'Refuge Tree'
because of a non-Tibetan readers confusion with the Tibetan word
shing meaning 'tree' and zhing meaning 'field', region or realm.
The correct translation and name for this type of painting is
Field of Accumulation, or more commonly known in English as a
Refuge Field.

Der Zufluchtsbaum
ist eine besondere Art der Darstellung aller Lehrer und Gottheiten
einer bestimmten Tradition. Sie werden hierarchisch um eine zentrale
Gottheit abgebildet.
Ein
Zufluchtsthanka erinnert die Gläubigen an alle heiligen Gegenstände
ihrer Tradition, nämlich z.B. die Lehrer, Buddha, Dharma
und Sangha in Form einer hierarchische Gruppierung. Sie bilden
das Feld der Ansammlung - die Grundlage, auf der in einem buddhistischen
Sinne Verdienst erworben werden kann.
Diese besondere Art von Rollbild ist auch die Grundlage für
eine Visualisierungs- und Meditationspraxis im tantrischen Buddhismus.
Das tibetische Wort "Tsog Zhing" wird oft fälschlicherweise
aus dem Tibetischen ins Englische als "Refuge Tree"
übersetzt. Dem liegt eine Verwechslung zwischen den tibetischen
Wörtern 'shing' im Sinne von 'Baum' und 'Zhing' mit der Bedeutung
'Feld' , 'Region' oder 'Reich'.
Diese falsche Übersetzung wird auch dadurch gefestigt, dass
diese Rollbilder häufig die Figuren innerhalb einer Baumkrone
mit einem Stamm darunter zeigen. Im deutschsprsachigen Buddhismus
werden diese Thangkas als 'Zufluchtsbaum' bezeichnet'.
